People blow this up to much.

Yes people die from it, yes it's mutating and stuff. But there will be cures very soon.

Don't worry to much, If you are to die, live your life to the fullest now!

Cures don't always work perfectly it takes months to perfect one and how do you know there will be on very soon? Lol you say: "it's mutating and stuff." It is a little more serious than just "mutating and stuff" because it can mutate to become more deadly, this is how the 1918 flu started out and by fall it was killing millions.

I guess the 1918 flu just killed people and stuff.

They won't have a cure until the 2nd of week of May, at best. Then, it has to go through testing before it can begin production, and then production has to start before it's available. It will be months before there is a cure for your use.

That's assuming the cure they make even passes the testing before it goes to human trials and manufacturing. If not, it'll take even longer. And by the time they do have a vaccine out, who's to say the virus won't have mutated and have become immune to it?

You don't know. So, don't say people are blowing it up too much.

We have more technology now than we ever have, but if we just shrug it off, then we may as well be back a couple hundred years ago when the bubonic plague killed off half of Europe in just under 4 years.

On a much closer note, the 1918 "Spanish" flu killed an upwards of around 100 million people. It's known as "the greatest medical holocaust in history" and may have killed more people than the Black Death.

The strain that killed over 100 million people less than 100 years ago was H1N1, and guess what? This is H1N1.

So yes, we should be making a bit deal out of it.

By the way, the situation was raised to level 5 (pandemic imminent) on April 29th.

Here's some numbers: http://www.cdc.gov/swineflu/

Um, no.

The better shape of your imune system is, the worse this will hit you. Read Cytokine Storm article.

From what I understand of Cytokine Storm, it is the result of overactive NK cells. This is not the result of a healthy immune system, it is an exaggerated immune system response. In no way will a healthy, balanced immune system make you more sick.

On the other hand, popping a few vitamin C pills won't help either. >< .Plenty of sunlight, zinc and just plain old handwashing would be more effective at prevention.

There is so much fear being created from the media - a spokeswoman from a prominent Australian health organisation told people to start stockpiling food today! We have no confirmed cases in Australia, yet our chemists are sold out of Tamiflu. People just need to start using their heads and not let the media think for them. /soapbox.

You know, maybe this is just a great chance for all of us to take some precaution, get a bit of water and food, practice better hygiene and so forth. You know with my sick sense of humor, I think maybe God (ah! I said the 3 letter word) is just ramping up for a big plague. He's looking down telling us, no screaming at us, to take care of ourselves, get ourselves prepared, get some emergency essentials in place. So when we all start to die from the big plague and all the religious/non-religious people start to QQ about "how could God do this to us, what kind of god would allow this to happen" he's going to look down and yell at us: "I TRIED TO PREPARE YOU! What SARS, the Avian Flu, and Swine Flu weren't enough to warn you?!!!"

If it's our time to go, then who am I to stand against his will, Inde? We all got to go sometime, right? Personally I'd rather go down fighting in a zombie apocalypse, then again that's just me.

And I'll answer: "I took those ******** vitamin C pills didn't I!!?"

OK so maybe it won't help. At least it won't hurt, either.

(Besides, lung cancer is gonna get me long before any old flu strain ever will)

Well, if it gets me, I'll be sure to let you know which it was. I hear hauntings are in this time of year.

Or, I guess I could be a zombie. But then you'd have to interpret which one "braiinsssss" meant. Come to think of it, that sounds a lot like "Great Scientific Minds!" Wow, I think I just sneaked into the future and unraveled a puzzle. o.o"
